Her lecture was titled ‘Writing Historical Fiction in the Mizo Context’, wherein she spoke about the importance of remembering history as shaping one’s present. The lecture focused on the process of writing: the research, the empathy, sensitivity and patience required in bringing oral history into perspective. She also spoke about the discipline necessary in the art of writing. Students were encouraged to take up creative writing projects in English, both as a way of developing latent talents, as well as paving a way to showcase Mizoram and the Mizo people to the rest of the English-speaking world. This point was strongly advocated by the speaker especially in the present scenario where there continues to be very little to be read about Mizo history and culture in the creative sphere. A lively interaction between the students and the speaker followed the session, which was chaired by Dr Vanlalchami, in the presence of other faculty members of the Department.
